Sensory gating in young children with autism: relation to age, IQ, and EEG gamma oscillations. Orekhova et al., 2008, Neuroscience Letters

  • P50 suppression in response to 2nd click (3-8 y/o, n=21/21) –Normal in HFA, but reduced in Autism with MR –Improved with age –Suggesting ineffective inhibitory control of sensory processing for retarded autism à excitation/ inhibition imbalance
  • Higher ongoing EEG gamma power corresponded to lower P50 suppression in autism (p<0.02), but not in control group. The data suggest that ineffective inhibitory control of sensory processing is characteristic for retarded children with autism and may reflect excitation/inhibition imbalance in this clinical group.

P50與symptom dimension!

2005年,一群法國人發現比起PANSS負性總分低的55位schizophrenia patients,PANSS負性總分高的31位schizophrenia patients具有significantly increased T/C ratios[P50 inhibitory gating deficit is correlated with the negative symptomatology of schizophrenia. Psychiatry Research. 136 27-34]

不過同年New Mexico研究團隊(MXHuang, Michael Weisand)同時做ERP(P50)與MEG(M50),最後發現Negative symptom與P50無關,但卻與M50有相關      M50 sensory gating predicts negative symptoms in schizophrenia. Schizophrenia Research 2005 Mar 1;73(2-3):311-8.

一樣是用MEG:這一篇1998年[Resersal of cerebral asymmetry  in schizophrenia  measured with magnetoencephalography]認為reversed left-right asymmelry與PANSS general psychopathological score有相關

    是S1貢獻大?還是S2貢獻大呢?

Experimental Brain Research. 139:377-390].(認為S1比S2重要) S1 amplitudes largely determine differences between normal and schizophrenia groups on AER suppression

    [Fuerst DR, Gallinat J, Boutros NN (2007): Range of sensory gating values and test-retest reliability in normal subjects. Psychophysiology. 44:620-626.]一文認為S1 Amplitude對於 Gating的貢獻:差!
